| Project PLAN-B | |
| Originally this started as a research project in my first year at IADT It was created to be a tool which could serve many roles for a technician or network administrator. It wasn't long before a few friends, also in the field, urged me to release the project for open source development. I realized this could only improve what I know has the potential to be a very useful utility. Thanks and much gratitude goes to T & T, Inc. for the donation of the webspace and allowing us to share their bandwidth. However, their traffic is metered and charged for, so anyone able to contribute mirrors for the ISOs would be greatly appreciated. Also, I’d like to thank Barry Marhefka for coming up with its name; otherwise it would still be called “that cd”. |

I hope to gain input from its use in several areas of the field, in order to design the next release. Although I know not every possible situation could be accounted for on one cd. That’s why the ability to create one for a specified task (i.e. Custom Kit) should be available. I decided that as an administrator I don’t need to be entertained by the OS to get a job done (“A command line junkie quotes”). For this reason, I attempted to find solutions with a small file size, devoted to handling the task it was created for and relative ease of use (although not necessarily “User Friendly”). After all it was designed with the intermediate to advanced user in mind. The reason I choose Linux for its platform, besides the fact it’s the only one you can develop without paying “enter astronomical amount here” for its use, would have to be this: “It’s simple, you've just walked into a game of chess only to find, your opponent is playing by their rules(As we go), on their board(Linux) and your 15 moves behind (Rule 9.A25: Intruder may take as many moves as possible while your not looking)”. The above scenario is fictional, of course, in the physical
sense. However logically it couldn't be more real. The project as a whole
will continue to attempt to advance as long as I can keep it going. If
anyone wishes to contribute to the project (ideas for improvement, programs,
bugs or bug fixes, scripting) I would very much appreciate your input.
There has been a list started on the “ToDo” page of some ideas,
I’m sure we can find more. Thank You in advance for sharing. -- J. McDaniel
